In Crisis

How often do we ask God in our time of crisis or decision? W think we are so smart that we first try to figure it out all by ourself. Then, we proceed to ask all of our friends and colleagues, "What would you do? What do you think?" And when we have exhausted our resources, we call on God.

Scripture teaches, "Keep asking and it will be given you, keep searching and you will find. Keep knocking and the door will be opened." (Luke 11:9) We are taught to be persistent in asking God. Ask Him today, ask Him again later, ask Him before you lay your head down for a night's rest. Ask and keep on asking....and it will be given to you.

When my girls were very young they learned quickly the technique of asking in this manner. They would ask and keep asking. And if they did not get the answer they wanted, they would wait a little while and ask again. Later, they returned to gently ask again. Before bedtime, they would ask again and again and again, until their Dad and I usually "caved" and gave them what they persistently asked for when they asked in the right spirit.

Sometimes, we think God doesn't hear us or is not concerned about what we have prayed. We ask and may not receive an immediate answer. But this is absolutely incorrect to think that God is not concerned about our requests. Luke 11 teaches us not to be quick to give up. Not to walk away and become frustrated, but to faithfully and persistently keep on asking. Because when we keep on asking, the Word declares that, "it will be given you". This is a promise from the Word and we must ask in faith, believing that God will answer. So ask and then, ask again. God is listening.
