Hold Firm

Scripture in Hebrews 4:14 teaches us to hold fast the confession of our faith - "Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess." And this teaching is repeated again in Hebrews 10:23, "Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful."

Now, the only reason you and I would need to hold tightly onto something is that if someone were trying to take something away from us. Satan is your enemy and will try to steal your confession of faith and take away your trust in God. He does that by putting doubt and wrong thoughts in your mind. Without prayer, he causes you and I to respond wrongly to those around us. Our enemy's hope is that these wrong thoughts will eventually produce wrong words, words of doubt and discouragement that will completely sabotage your confession of faith.

So when you feel discouraged, ask yourself if you are being discouraged by evil thoughts. Ask yourself if the enemy is taunting your mind in an ugly attempt to destroy your confession that is spoken in great faith. Is he attempting to undermine your reputation? Remember according to the Bible, "...the power of life and death is in the tongue" (Proverbs 18:21).

Start speaking to yourself in confidence and encourage yourself in the Lord. And do not let your adversary rob you of your confession of faith in Christ Jesus. You can make a difference in the lives of others around you. Others are watching your life, so guard it and hold firm.
