One Step

When faced with decisions, we sometimes move forward quickly and hastily based on emotional responses. One Chinese proverb states, "a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step." It is important to note that before you take your first step in a decision, you should think, plan, pray, and discern. In the gospel of Luke 14:28, we are given wise instruction from Scripture. “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?"

Use your head - Think and Plan. Use your Spirit - Pray and Discern. If you fail to think, plan, pray, and discern...your only plan is to fail because the result will be "making poor decisions". Understand the vital importance of that one, first step.

Have you ever heard the saying, "don't get the cart before the horse"?
You see, we get excited and our heart beats fast. And we make decisions based on feelings and emotions, rather than taking time to reflect, think, plan, pray and discern the affect of such a decision on our life. Here is a word of wisdom: Be careful to think, wait, and hesitate. Do not jump emotionally with your decisions. Remember...first things first and that first step is important.

"Be anxious for nothing, but IN EVERYTHING by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be known unto God. And the peace of God which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:6-7) Again, I encourage you: Think. Plan. Pray. Discern. Then, make your decision. God has promised to guide you if you consult Him first. So do not forget the most important first step.
