Circling

Deuteronomy 2 speaks of a place called Gilgal which literally means "rolling wheel".  It represents a place of endless circling. Sometimes, we get into a routine of just doing what we've always done. But Gilgal is where God delivers us from carnal cycles and aimless circling. Often, Gilgal represents the mountain that you and I have circled too many times.  It is things we do (not really knowing why we do them) other than they've always been done that way before.  It's like being on a spinning wheel and feeling like there's no way for us to jump off and survive.

Notice the profound instruction found in Deuteronomy 2:3, Scripture declares, "You have skirted this mountain long enough! Turn northward!"  Sometimes, we need a firm decision to turn. We must change direction and venture away from the normal rut we've found ourselves in.

You will find a circle really doesn't take you anywhere but around and around on the same path.  That's why pony rides are great for young kids under the school age, but as a child grows - they want more.  As they mature, they realize that the monotonous pony ride really doesn't take them anywhere but back where they began.  Habitual circling can be very comfortable and predictable, but it does not help us to grow up in God.  It is time for each of us to allow God to bring about a permanent change in our lives.  Perhaps it is time to stop skirting the same mountain and be open to turn.
