Submission

The truth is we really do not like to talk about submission.  And often we forget about this important message that Titus carried.  Scripture in Titus 3:1-2 declares, "Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men."

Submission to governmental authorities sometimes may seem like just more restraints or rules.  Rather it is a law which was put into place under God's authority for our protection and provision.  And ignoring laws are a direct violation of God's authority put into action to safeguard our lives.  Paul teaches in Romans 13 that all law is established by God's authority.  We should obey laws with the same measure we obey the Word.  Therefore, you and I should carefully consider the laws of our land and be fully subjected to that authority.  When we honor these laws, we honor God.

The latter part of Titus 3 teaches us to do good and be careful not to slander others.  Gossip can come so freely to our lips, as we jump into a conversation in passing without regard for factual information. Our desire should be to display attitudes that are considerate of others.

We should strive to show humility toward others and always give them the benefit of the doubt.  This is difficult, but somehow if the facts prove that the information spoken was true, then instead of talking about them to others, we should pray for them, encourage them, and be considerate of them.  Because in doing so, we show submission to the authority of Christ by following the principles of Titus chapter 3.

When we walk according to the Word, we live a life that others will desire to imitate. And what results is....blessing also follows. This is submission of heart.  Learning to submit our hearts daily to the Lordship of Christ is a discipline that naturally falls into place the more we spend time in God's Word.
