Walking in Light

In John 8:12, Jesus declares: "I am the light of the world, he who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."  Here we see a strict declaration of how those who follow Christ should walk. There is no room for gray areas here.

Sometimes, in knowing we walk in darkness - we try to fix ourselves before coming to God.  We think we will just clean up our act, rid ourselves of the vices of life and then, present ourselves to God.  But it never really works out good that way.  We are not able to repair ourselves - it is only by the work of God in us.

Jesus said that His followers do not walk in darkness (sin) but have made a life-change.  They have or possess within them the light of life.  Because they have experienced an encounter with Jesus, they no longer are in bondage to the sin of this world but walk in freedom and liberty and light and life.  We do not make this transformation of heart on our own - but it is the work of the Spirit within us that brings about change.

This is another "no excuses" Scripture for a mediocre lifestyle, tainted with this world's sin and bondage.  It's simple.  By only your asking, God will free you and strengthen you to walk in the light.  He will give you self-control and empowerment that you never dreamed possible.  And your success will be rooted in Him.
