We must be careful not to partake of Holy Communion just for the ordinance itself. We must delicately examine our hearts and repent of our sin before partaking of this sacrament. Scripture teaches if we partake when our heart is not right, we drink damnation to our soul. But when we partake in a right relationship with God - blessing follows.
Anytime, you and I respond obediently to the commands of Scripture.... blessing is poured out. God is a loving and caring God who desires every opportunity to render blessing unto those who follow Him. However, the blessing is often only released in response to our own obedience.
In 1 Corinthians 11:25, Jesus commands us to respond lovingly to our Covenant with Him by remembering Him through this act of obedience. "This cup is the new covenant in My blood, this do as often as you drink it in remembrance of Me." As we partake, we can reflect the life Christ lived, the sacrifice of Himself He made for us, and the redemption that is now available to all who will only respond to Him with a heart of repentance.
Pray today and confess your sins to God. He stands with open arms, ready to forgive.
