When I hear the word 'Dove' there are a few things that come to mind. There is a wonderful 'Dove Nourishment Cream' known for its best use to smooth away dry skin. This product is buttery and is supposed to firm up facials and erase the wrinkles of time. But truly the only thing that brings true nourishment is the Word of God. Without it we become malnourished and wither away spiritually. The only thing that heals dryness is the pages of Scripture that removes the cracked and parched areas of our heart and returns our luster.
Another product that comes to mind when I hear the word 'Dove' is a famous chocolate bar. Yum! This chocolate is very different from all others. Just lay it on your tongue and let it melt. It has a creamy consistency and is perfectly sweet to the taste.
We are taught in Psalm 19:7-10, "The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb."
Here the Psalmist David compares the Word of God to the sweetness of honey dripping from the honeycomb. Dove chocolate is a very good quality product but it cannot possibly compare to the sweetness of the Holy Scripture enlightened by the Holy Spirit of God.
So... the next time you and I hear the word 'Dove' I just can't help but believe we will think only of the Dove of the Holy Spirit and the nourishment and sweetness the infallible Word of God brings, "to be valued more than gold, much more than fine gold - priceless."
