James often taught that faith is reflected in the Christian life by works. But there is no salvation in works alone. It is also understood through the teaching of Scripture that life must be balanced. However, works and service will result from a changed heart. Because I love God, I want to serve and follow the precepts of Scripture.
I am not saved by my acts of kindness toward others or how many people I help in a day. I am saved only by the blood of Jesus Christ. However, a direct result of my saved and changed heart will be a summary of good works. And simply because I have a relationship with Christ, I will desire to carry soup to the sick and I will have a compassionate heart that wants to help those in need.
In James 2:18 we find these words, “But someone may well say, You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.”
I encourage you to get connected in a local church and serve God by works, with your hands and with your heart. If you truly love God then start serving. There is a place for you.
