My husband and I have 4 great kids who are grown up with families of their own, but we gave them their names because those names meant something. We didn't name them because we thought the names were cute or of current times, but we named our children on purpose with names of extraordinary meaning and character.
Our firstborn son was the most beautiful baby I had ever held before. When he was born - immediately, I gave my heart away. We named him David. Not Dave or Davie, but David. The name David has substance. The name means "beloved" and "friend of God" who was the second and greatest of the kings of Israel, an amazing leader who slew the Philistine Goliath. He was full of mighty faith; he was strong and valiant. He never backed down.
Our second son, although a wonderful surprise, was another big blessing from the Lord who we named Joshua. Not Josh or Joshie, but Joshua. The name Joshua means "God is my salvation" who succeeded Moses in leading the Israelites. He was also one of 12 of the spies who returned to Israel with a positive report, full of faith, and became a tremendous leader. Joshua was also a strong and mighty leader and cared deeply for his people.
A few years later, the Lord "Doubly Blessed" our lives with gorgeous twin girls. We named them Stephanie and Kristin. We did not name them Steph/Stephy or Krissy/Kristian, but we named them Stephanie and Kristin. And their names had significant meaning.

The name Stephanie, a form of Stephen means "crowned in victory" who gave his life for Christendom and brought much glory to God.
The name Kristin, a form of Christ means "consecrated to God" who also served faithfully with unwavering dedication to follow the Will of God and also bring Glory to His Name.
Names have huge meaning. And I can honestly say, I am so proud of my children who although - none are perfect .....all have become incredible leaders and are living up to the meaning of their names, by following the heart of God for their lives.
From time to time, I hear frivolous words and conversations from others around me when they address the name of God. But Scripture is clear to declare that when we speak of God, we should speak His Name with great respect and the Honor of It's Worth. Exodus 20:7 declares, "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh His Name in vain." Let us remember to Honor the Name of God and realize that names have incredible meaning.
