Silence Please

Everyone enjoys a little quiet once in awhile. But do you realize how hard it is for us to be quiet?  When our kids were small and we would take road trip, sometimes the chatter got heavy and we would say, okay for the next 15 minutes we are going to play the silent game.

Sometimes it is necessary when we pray to become silent, so we can breathe, relax and just simply listen. However, we love to talk and talk when we pray. We often chatter endlessly with our needs and desires to God. But do we ever listen for His response.  Do we wait and ponder the very heart of God? Because He desires to speak to us and we need to be quiet.

James 1:16 declares, "The fervent prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." Therefore, we enjoy asking God to grant our petitions, heal and deliver, and pour out favor. But how often do you stop for a moment just to be silent and listen?

I know I love to talk. We are seldom quiet. Yet God desires to speak to us. He often speaks, but we are too busy talking, working, living, jabbering and running around in circles to hear Him. He cries out to us to go into a quiet place and pause for a moment and just... be silent.

Jesus said, "When you pray, go into your secret place and close the door and pray." Sometimes, God seeks to share with us in a quiet place, away from the bustle of the day. Yet we stay so very busy. It's important that we take time today to be quiet with God, so we can hear from Him. His words just may change our life. His direction may be exactly what we need. Be quiet and listen.
