Scripture in Amos 5:6 declares, "Seek the Lord and Live..." It seems this record of the very words of God have not made an impression on believers today. Often, we overlook what God requires of us. We seek our own way and our own will. We go about our day forgetting the necessary precept of seeking direction from the Lord. If we truly want to enjoy and understand what living is all about, we must place God first.
Farther in Chapter 5 of Amos instruction continues, "Seek good, not evil that you may live." Yet somehow our puny mind thinks we want to live apart from the teaching of the Lord. We want to continue to do our own thing and go our own way.
The Word continues, "Hate evil, love good." But sometimes we run to evil and shun doing good. When we seek the Lord, our heart is changed by the power of the Spirit. Our desires also change as we seek the good of others instead of ourself. Then, we can seek to serve others with lovingkindness and understand what it truly means to live.
