Created to Serve

When we commit our lives to Christ, there is a desire that is birthed deep in our Spirit to please and serve God. It's part of our new nature in Christ. Jesus the King of Heaven left His Throne in Glory to come to this earth and give His life for you and me. He came to serve. And we were created for God’s pleasure.

When I hear the phrase ‘created to serve,’ the scene of the disciples sitting around a large table after a feast and Jesus girding His waist with a towel comes vividly to my mind.

Jesus being fully and completely deity, kneeled down with a basin of water to display the heart of a servant by serving those around Him.  He was worthy of being served.  He was worthy of riches, honor and gifts, yet He humbled Himself to graciously serve those He labored alongside.

In John 13:16-17 the Scripture unfolds before us, “Now that I your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.  I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.  Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.  Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.”

Our heart should be to serve God with all that is within us and serve our Church with our gifts and talents. With serving flows the blessings of the Lord on our lives.
